Approach to Balance is an approved Medicaid provider in the State of Nevada.  We are in the process of seeking non-profit status from the Federal government.  Our mission is to provide peer based information on recovery from Mental Illness, and complementary service to aid individuals in recovery.

Honorable Mention – Pacific Research Institute (1992) – For a paper on how establishing Mental Health Courts would save communities money and provide better care to those arrested.

 My book, MENTAL ILLNESS A GUIDE to RECOVERY, was favorably reviewed by Boston University’s Psychiatric Rehabilitation Journal (Spring 2005. Vol. 28 # 4)

My column, primarily on Mental Health Issues, for the bi-monthly on- line news magazine The Nevada Observer www.nevadaobserver.com has appeared regularly since September 2006.

 WORK EXPERIENCE

Volunteer Mental Health Coordinator, Nevada ACLU ( 1999-2002)– Took part in Community Unity Coalition meetings and served on Judge Breen’s committee to form a Mental Health Court.  As a result, Nevada’s first MH Court was established in Reno (2000), Las Vegas (2004) Carson City (2005) and legislation passed for all Nevada communities to allow guilty but mentally ill pleas; consider alternative sentencing for those with mental health problems, and mandate mental health treatment in prisons (2007)

Member Mental Health Planning and Advisory Council (2001-2007) On Executive Committee (2004-07).  The biggest achievement during this time was bringing in the NASMHPD team for training on the Reduction and Eliminating of Seclusion and Restraint and having the Department of Mental Health and Developmental Services adopt it as policy.

Rosalie Henry has a B.A. in mathematics and an M.A. in TESOL.  She transitioned from the corporate world as a department manager, database coordinator and quality assurance specialist to teaching English as a second language in the U.S. and abroad.  She later entered into the Healing Arts profession.  Rosalie is certified in Massage Therapy/ Bodywork, Sound Therapy using tuning forks and various other touch and non-touch modalities such as Lymphatic Drainage Therapy and Reflexology.
